After that we will show you a list of smaller towns (villages) where the name equals one of the well-known -or lesser-known- wines. With well-known towns like Barolo, Montalcino and Montepulciano. Città del Vino - More than 500 wine towns and cities

Wine tourism in Italy is booming. An increasing number of tourists and wine lovers are finding their way to Italy's many thousands of wineries. Whereas in the past, one could enjoy a tasting of some wines after a short tour through the wine cellar, an increasing number of wineries and winemakers are recognising the opportunity to turn a wine tasting into a unique experience. Walking through the vineyards. Or combine a wine tasting with lunch or dinner in the vineyard. Local guides, wine experts and tour operators also create enjoyable day trips or half-day tours along wineries with distinctive combinations. Combinations of hiking, cycling or even horse riding with guided tours and -of course- the wine tastings themselves.

Alongside the national organisation Movimento Turismo Vino and the country's many wine consortiums, Città del Vino represents the interests of over 500 wine towns and municipalities. The primary goal of Città del Vino is to help cities and municipalities further develop their wine tourism. To attract wine lovers and highlight the attractiveness of the respective town or municipality in relation to wine, wineries, vineyards and wine festivals. Città del Vino was founded in 1987 by the 39 mayors of (in alphabetical order) Alba, Asti, Barbaresco, Barile, Barolo, Buonconvento, Canale, Carema, Carmignano, Castagneto Carducci, Castellina in Chianti, Castelnuovo Berardenga, Diano d'Alba, Dogliani, Dozza, Florence, Frascati, Gaiole in Chianti, Gattinara, Greve in Chianti, Jesi, La Morra, Marino, Melissa, Monforte, Montalcino, Montecarotto, Montefalco, Montescudaio, Neive, Nizza Monferrato, Ovada, Pramaggiore, Radda in Chianti, Rufina, San Severo, Siena, Treiso d' Alba and Zagarolo. The organisation has therefore now grown into a major player that has helped wine tourism in Italy to grow.
