Wine regions in Puglia

Beautiful Puglia (also known as Apulia) is located in the heel of the boot, the utmost southeast of Italy. Although the region is also known for its olives, Puglia is one of the country's most important wine regions. With an annual production of 10.8 million hl (120 million cases of wine) by 2022, Puglia is second after Veneto in terms of the amount of Italian wine produced.

The Salento region is the heart of wine production in Puglia. The two well-known wines Negroamaro and especially Primitivo put Puglia on the world wine map.

The wine region has 4 DOCG wines and no less than 28 DOC wines. In other words, a high-quality wine region. The Castel del Monte wine region in particular (to the left of Brindisi) produces excellent wines.

Time to get better acquainted with the wine region of Puglia, so you might find a new destination for your next wine trip in this area.

Wine routes in Puglia

What would be better than to taste regional and local wines in person through routes composed by the regional winemakers and consortia themselves. In Italy, the so-called 'Strada dei Vini...' are local wine trails along vineyards with the possibility of tasting the wines at the wineries directly. The routes will introduce you to the landscapes, the most beautiful landmarks and most delicious places to eat. But most of all, they are created to introduce you to the regional and local wineries that proudly present their wines to you. Wine tasting in the most beautiful way.

The summary of official wine routes in Puglia below reveals that there is only 1 official wine route in this region.

Check out all (there are more than 100...!) official Italian wine routes of the Strade dei Vini d'Italia.
